Pillar 05 / Policy

AI Governance & Policy Influence

Ensuring communities shape the rules governing AI.

Across Africa, AI policies, strategies, regulations, and governance frameworks are emerging rapidly. Yet many of these processes remain highly technical, inaccessible, and disconnected from the communities they will affect. This pillar focuses on ensuring communities understand, influence, and shape the rules governing AI before decisions become entrenched.

National AI Policy Tracker

It will provide accessible, real-time information that helps communities meaningfully engage with governance debates and strategically identify opportunities for influence before laws are passed.

Accessible community guides to top-level regulations.

Explainers

Plain-language translations of dense governance debates.

Consultations

Frameworks for meaningful, non-extractive engagement.

Submissions

Evidence-based civil society input on national legislation.

The People's AI Governance Scorecard

Evaluation & Accountability

The People's AI Governance Scorecard will rigorously assess national AI governance frameworks strictly through a community and human rights lens.

Rather than focusing solely on innovation metrics, the scorecard will evaluate frameworks based on their commitment to participation, transparency, accountability, deep inclusion, built-in safeguards, and true protection against algorithmic harm.
